What I’d tell my younger self now that I’m a Dad and Husband

At 21, I wanted to get as big and strong as possible. I thank my younger self for that!
Wish I would have done more mobility though

At 31, I was still chasing the next goal, the next opportunity, the next big thing. I thank my younger self for that too but at the same time I wish I would have slowed down and appreciated the present more.

At 41, I still love training. I still care about being strong, athletic and looking like I put in the work. But the WHY has changed. I want a body that lets me do more of what I love - golf, running, hiking, traveling, trying new things, keeping up with Harvs, being active in general with my family and hopefully still be doing all these things decades from now.

Funny enough, I probably care more about fitness today than I ever have. I just define it differently.

What matters more to you now than it did 10 years ago?

This is gonna piss a lot of y’all off, but Sydney Sweeny did not set women’s sports back. She exposed a crack and modern feminism that needs to be examined because when we do, we realize why “ well it’s my choice” is not empowering.
And men we need to do better. If we stop consuming this type of content things change.

I’ve got nothing against bodybuilding—I spent years chasing that look, but it’s never been at the mercy of being an athlete!

At 41, with a wife, a couple of kids (counting Hobbes), and hopefully a lot more years ahead of me… my goals have changed. The goal isn’t to be the biggest dude in the gym, it’s be able able to move “heavy” weight, fit enough to run a few miles without thinking twice, mobile enough that my body doesn’t fight me every morning, and healthy enough to keep up with my kids as they grow.

That’s why my training looks different these days.

I’m still lifting. I’m still pushing myself. But I’m also running, working on mobility, improving my conditioning, and training for a body that performs—not just one that looks good under good lighting.
